Denise reconnects with her youth by moving back to a modest apartment in a Montreal blue-collar neighbourhood. Yet, Denise has just retired from her chief financial officer job in the company run by her ex-husband. Her world fluctuates between a privileged class where her ex is lavishing into absurd materialism, the company now run by her selfish son Alex who despises her and a “crude working-class”. Denise will try to find her footing with her new neighbours who get her into poker games.
“Carried by a salty-tongued colorful wildlife, a delightful reminder of Gilles Carle’s and André Forcier’s films, Simon Galiero’s second feature film turns out to be a nuanced, moving portrayal of a woman to which a delicious depiction of social classes is added. Supported by an unaffected impressive cast of actors, Micheline Bernard wins the prize with high marks” (Voir Montréal)
The camera filters the irony, the humour and the poignant emotions with great subtlety.
